A major attraction of Karlskrona is the railway which runs in a tunnel under the town centre and into the naval base. A Swedish military historian at the conference said that it was always busy in the Second World War.
Here are the gates to the naval base.

Like most people, I have a very vague understanding of the role of Sweden in the Second World War, and little idea as to the role of its navy now.

Nevertheless, we are invited to dinner in Sjöofficierssällskapet.

The men were supposed to wear a jacket and tie, but I had not brought either with me to this conference, and nor had many of the other participants.

We are not very familiar with military establishments.

We enter the Swedish officers' club.
