Join us on a tour of central London, 27 July 2000,
heading towards the Tate Modern gallery of ART.

art/eat

We start in Old Compton Street, London. Open a Street Map

We are having lunch in Balans restaurant, admiring the charming service, tasty menu, tasty men AND the tasteful design.

We conceal the tasty men.

Just admire the decoration.

This is my friend Peter, just back from an important meeting in Ibiza.

Peter and I go back a very long way.

Today our goal is the Tate Modern gallery of very serious fine ART.

But we see the importance of less serious and expensive forms of ART in everything on the way.

So our first stop is at JUNGLE store, where Peter helps me choose some cool combat trousers.

art/wear

Actually I preferred the 1999 style of combats. I need Pete as my guide in important questions of taste!

However I am pleased to find Pete is in agreement with me in deploring the current American college student fashion for gigantic girly shorts like flapping windsocks.

Then we walk eastwards across Covent Garden.

art/drink (more)

In Drury Lane we pass the Royal Opera House, and then the highly operatic SARASTRO restaurant.

Peter shows me the eclectic decor and the proprietor offers us a glass of wine on the house.

There are ancient tiles on the floor, and just to the right of Peter's head there is a satyr with an enormous cock.

This is a foretaste (if that's the right word) of the gents loo, which is decorated with murals of (heterosexual) oral sex (both ways round).

The new Gryklaw office by Waterloo Station

art/work

We walk into the Strand and visit the international human rights lawyer, Wesley Gryk. His overcrowded office is full of folk in various dire straits.

His firm is moving to larger premises south of the river, and there is an important discussion of office furniture available at the IKEA at Croydon.

What better way to start a new place of work?

Following this example we continue our quest for ART towards Waterloo Bridge.
